Climate

The weather in Geneva in September is generally nice and warm. Temperatures during the day can be around the mid-twenties (25°C / 75°F).
Evenings and nights can be chilly with temperatures falling below 20°C / 65°F).
Please be informed, that the hotter than average temperatures in recent years result in summer thunderstorms, extending well into September, which are relatively unpredictable. Be prepared to take rain protection along.

Currency

The franc is the currency and legal tender of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. One Swiss Franc is subdivided into 100 cents. Coins consist of 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 Swiss Franc, 2 Swiss Francs and 5 Swiss Francs. Note denominations are 10 Francs, 20 Francs, 50 Francs, 100 Francs, 200 Francs and 1’000 Francs.

Current (October 2017) exchange rate: 1 USD = 0.97 Swiss Francs, 1 Euro = 1.09 Swiss Francs.

Foreign bank notes and traveller’s checks can be converted into Swiss Francs at the hotel, foreign exchange banks and other authorized money exchange outlets. The exchange rate is subject to market fluctuations. Most major credit cards are accepted in hotels, shops and restaurants. VISA and MasterCard are accepted at the congress registration desk. Personal or company cheques are not accepted at the registration desk.

Language

The official congress language is English. No translations will be provided.
Geneva being an international city, you will be able to get along with English very well. The locally spoken language is French.

Electricity

The voltage in Switzerland, as in most of Europe, is 230V/50 Hz.
Switzerland uses type C (2-pin) and Type J (3-pin) plugs. (Type C 2-pin plugs also fit J sockets.)
Most power sockets are designed for three pin round plugs. The standard continental type plug with two round pins, applied for many electrical travel products, may be used without problem. Adaptors are available in most hotels.)
